This months social ride is to the Brooklands Motorcycle Centenary Weybridge Surrey (See TUG Ad Page 44 and Web). It is not restricted to Full Members as I was told there will be plenty of catering facilities at the event and therefore it seemed a good opportunity to open the ride to all. However my scenic route to avoid the M25 turned out to be much longer than expected so I've built in a short stop on route at a bikers' cafe in North Devon.

The ride is organised as a one-way trip of about 100 miles from Thurrock Services. Return by whatever route you like with whoever and whenever you like. The M25 is signed on the roundabout immediately outside Brooklands and it is about 50 miles back to the Dartford Tunnel.

Meet in the Coach Park at Thurrock M25 Services for an 8.30am DEPARTURE. Correction the Bikers' Cafe is in West Sussex. There is an entry fee - not to the ride - to the event.......................Richard P.

Just to clarify a query I've had. TUG events showed this ride as Full Members from Sainsburys @ 9.30 whereas the Brooklands Ad showed it open to all 8.30 start from Thurrock Services. The second is correct 8.30 departure from Thurrock.

Fuel is available from Tesco Superstore on the right as you leave Brooklands........................Richard P.

I suspect she needs stronger suspension and better damping.

It's just a couple of pictures I'm afraid.

I met the happy crew at Thurrock, listened to Richard's briefing, snapped a few shots of people pretending to listen, then set off, got past Sevenoaks, where the speedometer developed demonic possession.

The happy little pointer either sat at nought miles an hour, or flicked and danced merrily anywhere between 20, 40 and 60.

This is fine except the speed sensor is linked to the ABS (or visa-versa) so up comes the brake failure red triangle of death and a rather annoying message of 'Brake failure' flashes. Of course the brakes have not failed but BuMW diagnostics think they have.

Not wishing to continue and then, later, discover that the anchors have gone into a deep sulk, I turned tail, followed by the demons, and went home.

Will, tomorrow, take the bike to be exorcised at BuMW Park Lane, Battersea.

====

PS No sign of Geoff (Fatpan) at all. Richard thought he was sweeping....

PPS Thanks to Smurf who took on the unenvious task (without a route plan). She kindly stopped to see that I was OK battling with the Belezebub of the speedo. I hope the short delay didn't mean she got lost!

PPS It was the celebration of the Brooklands centenary motorbike meeting that we were headed for. Must make a note to go to the next one in 2108.....

What a wonderful day... thank you so much Richard. I know Kent is full of restricted roads, but somehow you managed to find a great route that missed them. Brilliant ride, great company and lovely weather.

As for the old motorcyles - spectactular. The sound, smell and atmosphere as the bikes went around the course was something else... brought back many memories of my Dad's bikes. Did anyone notice there were quite a few Fred Flintstone bikes :shock:

Richard N - hope you get the bike sorted soon - at the risk of rubbing it in, you missed a great day.
