If any member would like to join the Eastbourne Lions Club 2008 Motorcycle Rally, in Aid of The East Sussex Air Ambulance on Saturday, 8th June 2008, please let me know. I have made provisional contact with David Lake, who informs me that we are all welcome to ride along as they have classes of all bikes up to 2008. The rally starts from the Western Lawns (opposite the Grand Hotel) on Eastbourne's seafront at 11.00 Hrs and returns to the Western Lawns for refreshments, judging and trophy presentations.

For full information and a downloadable entry form please visit www.eastbournelions.net - or you can enter on the day at the Wish Tower lawns.

East Sussex is a beautiful and interesting County for motorcycling and this event is an ideal way of seeing some of it and its historic past. Shortly after the start you will pass Pevensey Castle built by the Romans who called it "Anderida". The inner keep was built by William the Conqueror. Nearby is the first Church built by him in 1080. A few miles on and by kind permission of the owners, you will pass the grounds of Herstmonceux Castle passing by the moated 15th century fortress.
The two routes of 54 miles and 60 miles give riders the choice of missing out some of the hills. In particular the shorter route misses the long Netherfield Hill, but at the cost of missing Battle High Street with its period houses and unique character. Whichever route you choose both meet for a halfway break at the White Hart, Netherfield, before continuing southward towards the finish but not before enjoying the winding roads across the Seven Sisters, the Downs and Beachy Head then dropping down to Eastbourne sea front and the finish
