I have researched a ride for next Sunday, if anyone is interested. A414 to High Ongar, down to Abridge, then through Theydon Bois for a stop at High Beach. Back up to the fringes of Epping, and then B181/B180 to Stanstead Abbots, Much Hadham, and then cafe[1] in Bishops Stortford. Up to Elsenham for B1051 to Thaxted and then B184 to the end the ride at the Great Dunmow Triumph dealer. Total distance 70 miles.

Although there are no goat tracks involved you should expect cyclists, horses, some sump-line gravel, and oncoming drivers who feel more comfortable with a wheel over the centre line, so be prepared to sacrifice view for safety on left-handers.

[1] It turns out the cafe where I nobly forced down an all-day breakfast yesterday in the interests of research will not be open on Sunday (Feast of St. Hermeline the Unviolated, or something like that), but I got the location of one nearby which will be open and serves breakfasts. It will be a leap of faith.

Regards
Chris J.

Ah the return of the much loved CJ rideout.

Sounds like fun but I (and a number of others) will be heading off the far flung shores of France and a week of smiles there.
Hope you have a good run. The forecast is good for the day.

Mike

Far from the trip to France depleting numbers on this run, it increased them substantially! A poor observer/associate ratio meant that everyone at the AGT joined the ride and we had 15+ to enjoy the sun, High Beach, the less-than-ideal marker placement of Yours Truly, and the Costa Cafe at Tesco. Five of us were still on the ride when it ended at Dunmow, quitters having left by arrangement at various points. There were no U-turns as such, although I did make one after waiting hours (seven or eight minutes) for the group to appear. Sod's Law dictated that they then turned up in good order seconds later. Thanks to Stephen Green for acting as back-marker.

Pictures of AGT and ride have been posted.

Regards
Chris J.
