Hi Guys,

Has anyone been in Route Napalion in France?
If you ride along this route in France, what is time period to ride? I am sure route have mountain passes so weather may not permit to ride ...
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

Suggest that you pm John Tipper as he takes a tour there most years and can give you some really good insights and local knowledge.

Cheers

There are passes & weather is definitely worse than at sea level, but it doesn't get closed as far as I know.

I've been out there at this time of the year and stayed in Nice.
Basically first thing in the morning is cold enough for ice to be possible, but it's fine by late morning.

But any bad weather is concentrated & also lingers in the mountains, so you need a flexible timetable.

If you go now, you will have the road largely to yourself & the police are notable mainly by their absence, but you need a plan B.

Check Meteo France for weather info. Castellane is a largish town within the mountains on the Route Napoléon (temp down to 0 Celsius tonight).

My experience is that the locals seem to appreciate bikes more in the winter. I've been out on the Route Napoléon & had 4 different sets of locals approach & warn me of bad weather on the way, so that I didn't get caught in the mountains.

I have ridden the route and roads off several times in the last ten years anytime from Spring to Autumn and apart from a little rain have had no poor weather experiences, my good fortune I guess.

Ride and enjoy.
