In Richard's absence I an leading a a Full Member Ride on Sunday 27 August to the Heathside Cafe & Grill just beyond Swaffham. The route should be straightforward (no unclassifieds this time), with the obligatory stop at Wally's on the outward leg, and at Walker's on the return for refreshment & petrol. Total distance about 180 miles. We depart, fully tanked, at 09:30 from the White Hart Lane Sainsbury's as usual. Exact return point in Chelmsford still to be determined.

(This run was initially announced as being to Bourne, as recommended by Richard. I could not find a suitable cafe at either Bourne, Lincs, or Bourne, Cambs, hence the switch to a safer option)

Regards
Chris J.

It was such a beautiful day that it would have been hard for the ride not to be enjoyable. We had 16 bikes and things went more or less to plan. Looping the loop at the roundabout just after the one outside Sainsbury's was, of course, just an early reminder to expect the unexpected. This was useful because it meant that nobody was too surprised, on the way back at Bardfield, when the leader suddenly appeared behind them and overtook the group (dropped marker turned out not to be from our group, and proceeded past me with a cheery wave, leaving the real group to ride past the turn). I thought the Heathside Cafe was very pleasant. It was good to see that all the suffering poor Chris Reed has been through has not put him off his victuals at all. Alan and Ron did not eat. They heard the sounds of an off road track behind the cafe and, this being more alluring than food, went off to investigate. We ended the ride at Dunmow. Total distance 176 miles. Many thanks to Paula and Ian for sweeping. Pictures have been posted.

Regards
Chris J.

PS Good to see Stuart Daniels again. I swear he has not aged a day in the last ten years.
