Complaint from member about talking over group night speaker

Post by Jill »

Hi All,
I wasn't at the last group night but have had a complaint from a member who is.
I quote:-

The committee go to great lengths to arrange speakers for most club nights.
These speaker go to a great deal of effort to come to us.
But time again there are a small number of members generally at the rear of the hall that spoil it for the other members who are interested in the subject matter by continue to carry on talking amongst themselves.
This in my opinion is the height of bad manners and ignorance that shows a complete lack of regard for majority in the hall.
I have noticed that at club evenings that a number of people in the room look at these people who just carried on in total ignorance of the disruption they are causing.
I would ask the committee to take action against this small regular group of members that spoil it for everyone else.

Please can we give our visitors the respect they deserve. Thank you.

I was at the group night and agree that the table to the top left as you look at the bar was completely oblivious to the fact that we had a guest speaker. The table consists of long term members who may not have been interested in the talk but should be respectful of guests to the club. I have brought this up at the committee meeting and Jill is following it up.
